Not this year, though. I have two plants. That pumpkin in the picture already weighs 30 pounds! The beauty is, we have another two and a half months to grow this baby...

This blog is our family's way of keeping in touch and sharing our gardening, canning and brewing experiences with all of you... We are not experts by any means, but we certainly enjoy this journey we are on! With that said, welcome to our world...and enjoy yourself! -- Photo by Daisy Girl

I grew a big pumpking once on me veggie plot at our plant nursery...... didnt go much to it, just sort of left it to get on with it, then tenticles grew and grew and one even grew up the butterfly bush where a pumpkin grew and was hanging lol
ReplyDeleteWell I entered my big pumpkin in our village autumn horticulture competetion.... it was not big probably by doodle standards, but it weighted 154 lbs :) and I won by 20 lbs lol...... old Tom who was about 85 and the village pumpkin winner for about 25 years LOL said...... how did you grew it bigger then mine Mel... I replied... just neglect Tom, just neglect...... he asked me where he could buy a bottle of that from LOL
My pumpkin was the talk of the village and our local IronMongers Shop where I had bought the seed, displayed the pumpkin in his shop window LOL and our infant school asked to borrow it to show the children LMFAO..... I should dig out the photos :)

I don't think this will be ready for the fair at the end of the month, but I think there may be other contests to enter later this Fall...at least I hope there is!
ReplyDeleteFor a change, our tomatoes are turning orange - we ate one last night!!! Usually we are frantically watching the temps because it is the middle of September.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool Jeannie it has been a good summer this year. We have been enjoying tomatoes for a two or three weeks now. having greenhouse to kick start things sure helps a lot...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love growing pumpkins, though they are usually a smaller variety. My largest & first ever pumpkin was 80 something pounds though. Pumpkin vines are fun to have in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Petunia... I am enjoying this year's garden. Sunny was in the garden yesterday and said this pumpkin grew another 15 pounds in less than a week! I am excited...
